The Shallows Crystal Vase by Japanese designer Kazunaga Sakashita transforms water from something hidden inside a vase into the centrepiece of the composition. As the water rises to the rim, its delicate surface tension creates a perfectly still, reflective surface that appears to merge with the crystal, bringing the vase, water and flower together as one.
Designed for a single stem, branch or small floral arrangement, Shallows creates the impression that the plant is emerging directly from the water rather than from a container. The changing reflections and the gentle curve of the water's surface shift with the light and the viewer's perspective, giving the vase a calm, contemplative presence.
More than a vessel for flowers, Shallows reveals the quiet role of water in sustaining life, turning the vase's purpose into a poetic part of the composition.
